About Helen
I graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1987.
After spending a year at the Royal College of Art in London, I moved to Glenshiel, where I have lived and worked as an artist for the past 19 years.
I paint using soft pastels on archival sandpaper. I love the immediacy and tactile qualities of pastel. I like to use strong colours, however staying within the bounds of naturalism.
I try to catch the extraordinariness of a moment of light, interplaying shadows and light to give the paintings a dynamic narrative.
My current work focuses on the sea shore and skies.
I walk, camp and climb in order to capture my subject matter at different times of the day, by sketching and taking many photographs.
My children also feature in my paintings, Rowan is ten and Hannah is eight.
My paintings and prints are available directly from myself or by visiting various galleries around Skye and Lochalsh.
